Opinion Pocket Knife #9 The blade is 9 cm long and made of carbon steel. The first Opinel pocket knives were made of carbon steel. Blades made of this steel are renowned for their extremely high quality and strength. With a carbon content of around 0,90 %, the blade is very strong, maintains its sharpness well and is easy to sharpen. The carbon steel is first smelted in Germany and then the alloy is finished in France. Carbon steel knives require more maintenance than Opinel stainless steel knives. Opinel carbon steel pocket knives should not be stored in damp environments and should be well dried and lubricated after use. All carbon steel blades can oxidise over time and develop a dark grey colour - but this does not affect the sharpness or quality of the knife.
