FEATURES:
Knife
Opinel no. 9 knife blade length - 9 cm. The blade, made of 12C27 stainless steel modified by Sandvik and adapted to Opinel knives, is famous for its extremely high quality and easy daily maintenance. Steel is hardened by heat treating it by martensitic hardening. The carbon content in such steel is not less than 0.40%, so the blade is of high quality and resistant to corrosion.
The traditional Opinel blade is a jatagan type. This shape was inspired by the curved point of the Turkish sword. The jatagan-type blade has a convex profile that gives it strength and ensures the possibility of repeated sharpening.
Handle
For handles, Opinel usually chooses common beech wood. Beech trees grown in French farms are tough, resistant to external factors and easy to process. The wood looks homogeneous, and its light color can vary from yellow to pink. Beech wood can be recognized by its abundant dark streaks. In order to protect the handle from moisture and dirt, it is varnished.
Opinel no. 9 like all other curved Opinel knives starting from no. 6, has Marcel Opinel s 1955 the Virobloc safety ring was invented. The Virobloc ring, which is cut from stainless steel, consists of two parts: a fixed part and a movable part. The blade is fixed both unfolded (to make it safe to use the knife) and folded (thus ensuring safety when transporting the knife).
